General orders of a sentry5/25/2023 The goal of military training is to instill and reinforce the Navy's Core Values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment with the basic skills of training in a team environment. Your training will be challenging but highly rewarding. Your training will include physical fitness, seamanship, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control, and lessons in our heritage and core values, teamwork, and discipline. The goal of this training is to transform you from a civilian into a Sailor with all of the skills necessary to perform in the fleet. Recruit training, or "boot camp," is now approximately ten weeks long. To be especially watchful at night and during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post, and to allow no one to pass without proper authority. To salute all officers and colors and standards not cased. To call the Officer of the Deck in any case not covered by instructions. To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder. To talk to no one except in the line of duty. To receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the Deck, and Officers and Petty Officers of the Watch only. To quit my post only when properly relieved. To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guard house than my own. To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert, and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing. To take charge of this post and all government property in view. Narcotics/illegal drugs or any paraphernalia.Firearms, weapons, or explosives of any kind.All non-prescription drugs and medications.Portable video game players, MP3 players.Cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vapes, tobacco, and chewing tobacco.Razors of any type, including blades, and knives.Anything in glass containers including mirrors.Playing cards, dice, gambling paraphernalia.Disposable Lighters (the fluid cartridge of a "Zippo" lighter will be confiscated).Face powder, Blush, Lipstick, Eye shadow, Mascara.*Female Recruits may retain the following personal items:.One pair of prescription glasses or reading glasses.Religious medallion (No larger than approximately 2"x1").Permanent resident card (for non-citizens).If not, provide legal name change documentation. The name on ALL identification MUST match. ![]() One form of identification MUST have a photo.
